Conservation

Conservation is how we decide to take care of our cultural (and biological) heritage. Today, in the industry of building conservation, it is mostly accepted that we need to preserve as many of the pre-industrial buildings as possible, for too many different and debatable reasons, mine being the value these buildings contain (cultural, aestethics or even commercial). Some craftspeople consider that it is important to save as much old material as possible (e.g. the mullion below), wether it is structural or not. Some others would rather just keep what doesn't need repairing and replace all the rotten and the broken, more well-dried firewood.
